Americans, especially those claiming to be Christians, should be outraged that America's military leaders along with conservative politicians and pundits try to justify or ignore rape and other sexual violence against women in the military.
Some men choose to ignore or try to justify any rape and military rape in the time of peace or war, slavery for any reason, pre-emptive war for economics reasons, and the rape of young girls by high school athletics. That these same men also can claim to be moral christians is a testament to the warped sensibilities and absurdities of the human male's mind when it comes to men's sexual relationships with women and a woman's right to be free from sexual violence.
If these men are sincere about their belief in a moral Jesus Christ, but still believe that The Christ approves or is OK with such behavior, then the power they call God The Father either made a really bad decision when He created men or God is unlike anything close to the loving God professed Chrirstian men say He is. Either that or the forces of evil are much more powerful in every place on Earth in the psyche of men than is the force of their God, Jesus christ, Christianity, and their self-proclaimed morality.
We are not far removed from a time when American men who were Self-proclaimed Christian Men of God, enjoyed the lynching of African American Men and Native American Men in the presence of their mothers, wives, sons, and daughters as part of the social entertainment at a church picnic. Many of these lynchings occurred immediately following church service where pious professed Christians likely praised God, thanked God for "His Son, Jesus Christ", asked for his blessings, prayed for the forgiveness of their sins, and went straight way to "hang the nigger".
Apparently, like racism and other forms of ethnic bigotry, mysogyny trumps everything. It even trumps common sense and Christ Like Behavior by men who swear they are Christians who love Jesus christ.
But Jesus did not wage a war on women. Nor did Jesus Christ sexually abuse women, justify the rape of women, or believe that women shouldn't be protected from sexual violence simply because they are in the military, are members of an ethnic minority, or are members of the LGBT community.
Unfortunately, there are too many places in the Christian Bible and non-christian bibles where men can go to when they want find justification for rape, slavery, owning concubines, and fathering children by multiple wives--including female slaves who were erroneously and irrationally referred to as wives of men who were nothing more than slaveholders and rapists.
Too many men, even self-proclaimed Christian men, have the moral capacity or more correctly, moral failure that allow them to believe anything, even obvious lies. But, if the Christian God is real and Jesus Christ is His Son, it is unlikely that a real Christian God and His Son will forgive stupidity, domination of women, civilian rape, military rape, and other forms of sexual violence against women simply because it was done in their names.
It is time for Christian men of God to come to the defense of women in their fight against whomever want to deprive any woman and her daughters of the same rights to which men believe they are entitled. The Christian God and Jesus The Christ that professed Christians claim to love, likely expects nothing less.
