It's true. When women help elect right wing conservatives and tea party Republicans, bad things happen for women. Critical thinkers are bemused if not astounded that working class and middle class red state voters keep voting against their own interest to help elect conservative Republicans. The record is undeniably clear. All of the policies that benefit the majority of Americans have come from liberal politicians not conservative politicians. Perhaps the first sentence in this piece help explains the problem.
Conservative Republicans and conservative pundits lead their constituents by their emotional noses. And the inability to disengage from emotional thinking and engage in critical thinking is an intellectual deficiency that predatory Republicans are more than willing to use to their advantage.
The easy way out of this for anyone who is astounded by the absurd behavior of people voting for their conservative abusers is to say that these people are stupid and that you can't fix stupid. But taking the easy way out is not a liberal trait. Solutions to America's social problems are not solved by meaningless, do-nothing, and phrases designed to appealed to emotional thinking. Phrases like: "trickle down economy", "take America back", "pro-life", "Jeb!", "let's build a wall", "small government", "abortion", "religious freedom", "war on religion", "lazy liberals," and "Obama is coming for your guns".
But all of these are just empty words, having noting but emotional appeal because Conservatives offer nothing beyond those. Consider a few of them.
- Pro-Life
Conservative Republicans claim to be pro-life. But what have they offered women to make women certain they are pro-life? Being pro-life has to mean something beyond being against abortion, doesn't it? The Republican led legislature in Florida just threw out surgical standards for babies undergoing open heart surgery. Doctors are outraged at the change, but state Republicans don't care. The GOP received a big donation from a failing hospital that apparently needed Florida to get rid of these surgical standards for pediatric open heart surgery. This is just another of Republican "Pro-Life" morality--appropriate right up to the time your child exit the womb. - War On Religion and Religious Freedom
When right wing Republican talk about a war on religion they are implying that there is a war on Christianity. But Christians are free to worship any way and any where they choose. The reverse is true; the christian right is engaged in a war on religion, that is, every religion except their own. What is noticeable about their rants about social issues wars is the absence of rants and commentary on the Republican War On Women. That's a real war. - Abortion
Republican rants on the abortion issue walks hand in hand with their rants about being pro-life. Again, they are not pro-life so much as they are anti-abortion and anti-pro-choice, with the latter being the main issue. Conservatives literally don't want non-wealthy women of all racial and ethnic identifications, white, black, brown, red, or yellow to be in control of their own bodies. Their history clearly show that they believe that is a job for conservative men. Many are also against birth control and sexual health care for women--another reason they use the faux-outrage to destroy Planned Parenthood. - Small Government
Republicans play the "'small government" card when they want you to be against government regulations. They are fond of telling women that they shouldn't want the government to be too much involved in their lives. That comment is true for a Republican controlled government. But the real reason they promote the idea of small government is because small government benefits predatory corporations and predatory politicians. It guts any oversight and regulations for protecting your families from greedy and corrupt financial institutions and corporations that control or have an effect on your money, food, water, air, environment, education of your children, work environment, general health and safety. It also means they want to do away with Social Security and Medicare. Because" you can handle your money better that the government." Right?
There is nothing wrong with being conservative. Many liberal are conservative about many things that affect their children and they way they live. Still, conservative Women had better stop helping elect the predatory Republicans if they want a better world for themselves and their children. While many of you may survive the Republican war on women and their war on democracy; many of you will not. And for sure, your children and grandchildren will not.
And just to be sure; being a white woman whose children are not bi-racial is not a defense nor will it bring you relief against this relentless onslaught.
